To mark the 80th year of the invention of television, Cook Islands issued a commemorative coin. What makes this coin special is the depiction of a moving image on the reverse. With a face value of $1, the coin measures 39 mm in diameter, is made of Cupro-Nickel, and has a reeded edge.

The obverse bears an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right with the year of issue ‘2006’ below it. The inscriptions read ‘Elizabeth II’ and ‘Cook Islands’. The reverse of the coin has a black and white image of the first successful inventor of the television, John Logie Baird, next to a recreation of his first broadcast of a hand moving in front of a puppet. The image moves when the coin is tilted. The inscriptions read ’80 Years Of Television’ and ‘One Dollar’.
